Garrett County Classes

Classes in Garrett County are held in our office in the Oakland Community Center, located at 14 North Eighth Street in Oakland.

Directions: from McHenry, follow Rt. 219 to the light just past the Court House and turn left onto Rt. 39/219 East Oak Street. Follow to the intersection with Eighth Street. Turn left onto Eighth Street and proceed to the Community Center on the left. When arriving from Mt. Lake Park, access Rt. 135, turn right onto Eighth Street and proceed to building.

About 11 million Americans turn to the Red Cross each year to learn first aid, CPR, swimming, and other health and safety skills.

Last year our Chapter provided life-saving classes in CPR, First Aid, Automated External Defibrillator (AED) use, and life guarding to nearly 5,000 members of our community.
We provide classes each month at our offices in Cumberland, as well as locations in Mineral and Garrett counties. In addition, we provide classes for large employers and civic organizations throughout the region.

Classes provided on a regular basis include:

CPR/AED Adult & Pediatric

This 3.5 hour course includes caring for and recognizing breathing and cardiac emergencies in adults and children, including choking. AED instruction for adults and children is included with CPR.

Cost: $90.00(new) $55.00(review) includes CPR practice kit and 2 year certification.

Professional Rescuer/Health Care Provider CPR/AED

This 6 hour course developed for volunteers and career professionals who routinely respond to emergencies. This course emphasizes how to recognize and respond to respiratory and cardiac emergencies in adults, children and infants, including two-rescuer CPR and AED training. This course meets the standard requirements for nursing, allied health professions, and emergency medical services.

Cost: $110.00 (new), $90.00(review), includes pocket mask and 2 year certification.

CPR/FA/AED - (Previously Lay Responder)

This 5 hour course combines adult and pediatric CPR/AED with First Aid in an entire day of training.

Cost: $110.00(new) $90.00(review) includes CPR & FA practice kits, and both 2 year certification cards.

First Aid

This two hour course offers recognition and caring for life threatening emergencies in adults, such as burns, injuries to muscles, bones and joints, sudden illnesses, bleeding, poisonings, as well as heat and cold related emergencies. This course meets OSHA guidelines and is designed to fit the needs of businesses and industries.

Cost: $70.00 (new) $55.00( review) includes practice FA kit, and 2 year certification card.

Lifeguarding

Twenty-eight hour course for people 15 years of age and older teaching skills and knowledge needed to both prevent and respond to emergencies in and around the water. Course content and activities prepare candidates to recognize and respond quickly and effectively to prevent drowning and injuries. Pre-requisites apply.

Certification costs $350, review costs $200. Lifeguard certification is for three years, and First Aid/CPR certifications are for 2 years each.
